FACT CHECK: An unarmed black person is shot ‘every 28 hours,’ says Marc Lamont Hill

An unarmed black person is shot ‘every 28 hours,’ says Marc Lamont Hill…

When asked how often an unarmed black is shot by a cop, Hill answered “every 28 hours.” He then referenced a report issued by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and said “that every 28 hours an unarmed black person is killed.”

Either description is incorrect.

The report, which is not an academic work, reaches its conclusion by including deaths that were not at the hands of police, deaths of blacks who were armed, car accidents, and deaths of blacks who were in aggressive or hostile situations. The report only classified 136 of 313 deaths as unarmed, which does not support his claim that an unarmed black person is shot by police every 28 hours.

We rate the claim False.

(VIDEO) Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed

In Please Stop Helping Us, Jason Riley examines how well-intentioned welfare programs are in fact holding black Americans back. Minimum-wage laws may lift earnings for people who are already employed, but they price a disproportionate number of blacks out of the labor force. Affirmative action in higher education is intended to address past discrimination, but the result is fewer black college graduates than would otherwise exist. And so it goes with everything from soft-on-crime laws, which make black neighborhoods more dangerous, to policies that limit school choice out of a mistaken belief that charter schools and voucher programs harm the traditional public schools that most low-income students attend.

Black journalist silences NBC panel: Let’s not pretend cops killing blacks is the problem

By Richard Berkow

Wall Street Journal editorial board member Jason Riley upset the NBC liberals’ applecart by chronicling facts which refuted their mythic narrative of bullying white cops harassing innocent black youths.

Speaking on “Meet the Press,” Sunday, Riley told MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell and leftist Jane Harman that the offending officer in Ferguson, Missouri used excessive force and should be prosecuted, but “Let’s not pretend our morgues and cemeteries are full of young black men because cops are shooting them. The reality is that it’s because other black people are shooting them, and we need to talk about black criminality.”

… Harman and Mitchell then proceeded to interrupt Riley so that he could not articulate another sentence, until Mitchell could change the topic.

Texas’ Perry indicted for coercion for Veto Threat

Welcome to the modern Democratic Party folks, where they will indict a Republican governor for refusing to fund a department unless it’s convicted drink driving head steps down, yet look the other way as the Pelosi’s profit financially from taxpayer subsidies… While we’re at it, this applies to the attention paid to each issue by the mainstream news media.
– Mr B.

By Paul J Weber & Will Weissert

AUSTIN, Texas AP — A grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Friday for allegedly abusing the powers of his office by carrying out a threat to veto funding for state prosecutors investigating public corruption — making the possible 2016 presidential hopeful his state’s first indicted governor in nearly a century.

A special prosecutor spent months calling witnesses and presenting evidence that Perry broke the law when he promised publicly to nix $7.5 million over two years for the public integrity unit run by the office of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg. Lehmberg, a Democrat, was convicted of drunken driving, but refused Perry’s calls to resign.

Though the Republican governor now faces two felony indictments, politics dominates the case. Lehmberg is based in Austin, which is heavily Democratic, in contrast to most of the rest of fiercely conservative Texas. The grand jury was comprised of Austin-area residents.

… Mary Anne Wiley, Perry’s general counsel, predicted Perry ultimately will be cleared of the charges against him — abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant.

“The veto in question was made in accordance with the veto authority afforded to every governor under the Texas Constitution,” she said.

Judge Wants Answers After IRS Contradicts Sworn Testimony

By Patrick Howley

U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan Thursday ordered the Internal Revenue Service to come up with new answers after IRS employees contradicted sworn testimony about damage to Lois Lerner’s hard drive.

Sullivan ruled that “the IRS is hereby ORDERED to file a sworn Declaration, by an official with the authority to speak under oath for the Agency, by no later than August 22, 2014″ on four issues: the IRS’ attempted recovery of Lerner’s lost emails after her computer allegedly crashed, bar codes that could have been on the hard drive, IRS policies on hard drive destruction, and information about an outside vendor who worked on IRS hard drives.

Recent documents from nonprofit group Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the IRS, which Sullivan is presiding over, showed that IRS technology officials contradicted sworn testimony about damage to Lerner’s hard drive.

Obamacare Chief Ordered Official To Delete HealthCare.gov Emails – Yahoo News

By Sarah Hurtubise

Obamacare head Marilyn Tavenner told a top press official to delete an e-mail related to HealthCare.gov during the botched launch, according to documents released Friday.

House Republicans are seeking emails from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services officials to discover exactly how Obamacare and HealthCare.gov’s rollout went so wrong. But it turns out that last October, Tavenner directly told CMS’s communications director, Julie Bataille, to delete an email chain with White House officials about HealthCare.gov and contractor Serco.

“Please delete this email-but please see if we can work on call script,” Tavenner wrote to Bataille, upon receiving an email chain which discussed talking points on getting through the then-nonfunctional Obamacare website and the efforts of Obamacare contractor Serco.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee wrote to Tavenner Friday asking why Tavenner directed Bataille to delete the emails and whether she had directed any HHS or CMS staff to delete any other communications or documents about HealthCare.gov.

“This contradicts the letter sent to the National Archives, which explained that your practice was to instruct subordinates to retain copies of e-mails,” the committee wrote to Tavenner, requesting to discuss the issue as soon as possible.

Administration Unlawfully Freed Thousands of Illegal Immigrants – Yahoo Finance

By Rob Garver

The continuation of the political fight over how to deal with the crisis on the Southern border was always going to be ugly. But a new report from the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General ensures that when Congress returns from recess next month, the discussion will descend to new depths of acrimony.

The report, requested by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and John McCain (R-AZ), confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, in early 2013, unlawfully released more than 2,000 illegal immigrants from custody, including more than 600 hundred who had criminal convictions, into the communities across the U.S.

(VIDEO) Obama Adviser 2011: ISIS & Jihadists’ Caliphate ‘Absurd’

By Thomas Joscelyn

On June 29, 2011, John Brennan, who was then a senior adviser to the president and is currently the CIA director, explained the Obama administration’s counterterrorism strategy.

“Our strategy is…shaped by a deeper understanding of al Qaeda’s goals, strategy, and tactics,” Brennan claimed. “I’m not talking about al Qaeda’s grandiose vision of global domination through a violent Islamic caliphate. That vision is absurd, and we are not going to organize our counterterrorism policies against a feckless delusion that is never going to happen. We are not going to elevate these thugs and their murderous aspirations into something larger than they are.”

Insurer-Linked Group Now Pushing Obamacare For Illegal Immigrants

By Sarah Hurtubise

“1.4 Million Tax-Paying Californians are Denied Health Coverage,” according to brochures the group is handing out across California. The group claims that extending eligibility for the Obamacare exchange — and taxpayer subsidies — to “undocumented Californians” is another “basic human right,” according to the pamphlets.

“Now it’s time for our state’s leaders to finish the job so that all Californians, regardless of their immigration status, have access to affordable health coverage.”

According to The California Endowment, extending Obamacare eligibility to undocumented immigrants would expand coverage to up to 1.4 million more people. President Obama pledged that Obamacare benefits would not apply to illegal immigrants — inciting Republican Rep. Joe Wilson’s infamous interruption — but the exchanges have so far struggled to handle the division between legal and illegal immigrants.

More lost emails — When will Democrats have enough? | TheHill

By Rick Manning

Twenty different Obama administration officials have lost or destroyed a portion of their email traffic. Email traffic that was, in some cases, under subpoena or in others requested as part of a larger inquiry into the conduct of the executive branch. House Committee on Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa R-Calif. expressed his frustration at the revelation that another Obama official, Marilyn Tavenner, the director of the Center for Medicare Services, deleted emails in the wake of the botched Healthcare.gov website roll out, stating, “It defies logic that so many senior Administration officials were found to have ignored federal recordkeeping requirements only after Congress asked to see their e-mails [sic].”

Yes, Rep. Issa, it does defy logic.

The brazenly contemptuous stonewall-and-erase-evidence approach to congressional inquiries preferred by the Obama administration is perhaps this president’s greatest affront to our constitutional system of government.

When you have records going missing across an administration, it is impossible to conclude anything other than it is a coordinated and condoned cover-up, and not just a series of incompetent, coincidental keystrokes wiping out information.

The conclusions get even uglier when you realize that the IRS dismissed the government contractor responsible for maintaining back-up files of their emails concurrent with Lois Lerner and her band mysteriously having their computers flatline.

The question is, where are the Democrats in the face of this obvious malfeasance?

(VIDEO) Remember when Obama promised that he would not take vacations if elected President?

Weasel Zippers has revived an old video of Barack Obama promising not to take vacations if he were elected president… Weasel Zippers used the quote to criticize Obama, saying he “then proceeded to hit the golf course 186 times (and counting).” The president has also been criticized for taking a vacation to Martha’s Vineyard while international crises are occurring.

(VIDEO) Obama 2011: ‘We’re Leaving Behind a Sovereign, Stable and Self-Reliant Iraq’

Article by Julie Pace

WASHINGTON (AP) — After years of resisting the pull of more Mideast conflicts, President Barack Obama has sent the military back into action in Iraq, where he once accused his predecessor of waging a “dumb war.”

U.S. planes on Friday bombed Islamic militants who were towing artillery outside Irbil near U.S. personnel, the Pentagon said.

The aggressive insurgency threatens to undermine Obama’s legacy as the commander in chief who ended a long and unpopular war in which nearly 4,500 American troops died.

It also raises fresh questions about whether Obama’s desire to end the war clouded his assessment of the risks of fully withdrawing U.S. troops, as well as his judgment about the threat posed by the extremists.

Doctors Begin To Refuse Obamacare Patients

By Sarah Hurtubise

Obamacare plans have shrunk payments to physicians so much that some doctors say they won’t be able to afford to accept Obamacare coverage, NPR reports. Many of the eight million sign-ups in Obamacare exchanges nationwide already face more limited choices for physicians and hospitals than those in the private insurance market. But with low physician reimbursement rates, the problem could get even worse.

For a typical quick patient visit, Dr. Doug Gerard, a Connecticut internist, told NPR a private insurer would pay $100 while Medicare would pay around $80. But Obamacare plans are more likely to pay closer to $80, which Gerard says is unsustainable for his practice.

“I cannot accept a plan [in which] potentially commercial-type reimbursement rates were now going to be reimbursed at Medicare rates,” Dr. Gerard told NPR. ”You have to maintain a certain mix in private practice between the low reimbursers and the high reimbursers to be able to keep the lights on.”
