Pay over $150k for Federal Workers Soars since 2005 – ECOMINOES

President Obama issued an executive order this weekend removing the 2 year-old federal salary freeze, thereby authorizing pay increases for Congress and federal employees. The timing of this order comes as the fiscal cliff looms hours away. Needless to say, even with the 2 year freeze, federal compensation far exceeds that of the private sector, and nearly 100,000 federal bureaucrats earn an annual salary exceeding $150,000.

The following graphic is sure to piss you off. Keep in mind that USA Today created it more than 2 years ago, and the federal pay freeze didn’t freeze promotions. In other words, the number of high-earning federal employees is even higher than this graphic indicates:

By the way, federal workers are paid with your tax dollars, you know, the taxes some in government want to raise in order to keep their wasteful spending and high salaries as is.

“The number of federal workers earning $150,000 or more a year has soared tenfold in the past five years and doubled since President Obama took office, a USA TODAY analysis finds.”

My Current Thoughts on “The Fiscal Cliff”

Since its obvious we have poor management running the country who can’t come to actual solutions, only political ones, I say we just go over that “Fiscal Cliff” we keep hearing about constantly in the news.

It’s the only solution that avoids class warfare by letting everybody’s taxes go up while forcing across the board spending cuts to happen. We all know our government has a SPENDING problem and this might be the only way to force their hand into making cuts. Once everyone’s taxes rise, apathetic Americans will finally wake up and start paying attention, turning their focus on a federal government that hasn’t passed a budget in over three years!

Those are my current feelings on the subject, if anyone can convince me otherwise please feel free to comment.

Rand Paul on Raising the Debt Ceiling…

“I would raise the debt ceiling on one condition and that would be a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Barring that, people in Congress, those who I’ve met up here, they don’t deserve to manage any more money. They’re doing a bad job managing the money they have. We should not send them any more money. They’re not to be trusted with money.“ ~ Rand Paul

Parties Resort to Finger-Pointing as U.S. Heads Over Fiscal Cliff – The Daily Beast

Hopes brightened again when John Boehner moved off his no-new-taxes-ever stance, agreeing to boost rates on millionaires, and Obama raised the income threshold on those who would be affected to $400,000 from $250,000. At last it seemed that rationality would prevail in Washington.

Instead, we have Harry Reid accusing John Boehner of running a “dictatorship” and the House speaker shooting back that the Democratic majority leader “should talk less and legislate more.”

Welcome back to Washington, the country’s biggest day-care center.

Oliver Stone: ‘US has become an Orwellian state’

Americans are living in an Orwellian state argue Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone and historian Peter Kuznick, as they sit down with RT to discuss US foreign policy and the Obama administration’s disregard for the rule of law. Both argue that Obama is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and that people have forgiven him a lot because of the “nightmare of the Bush presidency that preceded him.”“He has taken all the Bush changes he basically put them into the establishment, he has codified them,” Stone told RT. “It is an Orwellian state. It might not be oppressive on the surface, but there is no place to hide. Some part of you is going to end up in the database somewhere.”

NBCs David Gregory Mocks LaPierre for Proposing Armed Guards, but Sends Kids to High-Security School – The Weekly Standard

David Gregory mocked the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre for proposing that armed guards be at every school in America. But the NBC host seems to have no problem with armed guards protecting his kids everyday where they attend school in Washington, D.C.

…The NBC host would go on the rest of the segment to suggest that armed guards might not be effective in preventing mass murders at school. Which is perhaps an interesting theoretical argument. But when it comes to Gregory’s own kids, however, they are secured every school day by armed guards. The Gregory children go to school with the children of President Barack Obama, according to the Washington Post. That school is the co-ed Quaker school Sidwell Friends.

Newspaper Posts Gun Owners’ Names | ABC News – Yahoo! News

A newspaper in New York has received a wave of criticism from its readers after publishing the names and addresses of all of the individuals with handgun or pistol permits in its coverage area.

Hundreds of residents in New York’s Westchester and Rockland counties were surprised to find their names and addresses listed on a map posted by The Journal News on Sunday. Users can click any dot on the map to see which of their neighbors has a permit for a gun.

The map sparked more than 500 comments from readers within a day of its appearance on the website, many of them voicing outrage at the paper’s decision to make the information public.

“This is CRAZY!! why in the world would you post every licensed gun owner information?? What do you hope to accomplish by doing this. This is the type of thing you do for sex offenders not law abiding gun owners. What next? should i hang a flag outside my house that says I own a gun? I am canceling my subscription with your paper today!!!” said commenter Curtis Maenza.

“How about a map of the editorial staff and publishers of Gannett and Journal News with names and addresses of their families…,” wrote commenter George Thompson.

Why 2012 was the best year ever – The Spectator

Never in the history of the world has there been less hunger, less disease and more prosperity

It may not feel like it, but 2012 has been the greatest year in the history of the world. That sounds like an extravagant claim, but it is borne out by evidence. Never has there been less hunger, less disease or more prosperity. The West remains in the economic doldrums, but most developing countries are charging ahead, and people are being lifted out of poverty at the fastest rate ever recorded. The death toll inflicted by war and natural disasters is also mercifully low. We are living in a golden age…

Take global poverty. In 1990, the UN announced Millennium Development Goals, the first of which was to halve the number of people in extreme poverty by 2015. It emerged this year that the target was met in 2008. Yet the achievement did not merit an official announcement, presumably because it was not achieved by any government scheme but by the pace of global capitalism. Buying cheap plastic toys made in China really is helping to make poverty history…

NRA Chief LaPierre: ‘Call Me Crazy’ – Yahoo! News

Check out this “news” article covering the gun debate. I used their original headline for my post, NRA Chief LaPierre: ‘Call Me Crazy’….

National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre fired back at his critics today, defending his proposal to put armed guards in every school in the country as a way to prevent future tragedies like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that took the lives of 20 children and six adults. “If it’s crazy to call for armed officers in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy,” the head of the powerful gun lobby said today on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” The bold text is his full quote, check out the media’s headline, of course, they couldn’t resist with spreading only the half they’re concerned with.

… Gun control advocates argue that a federal assault weapons ban is necessary to curbing gun violence. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who helped pass an assault weapons ban in 1996 is renewing efforts to pass similar legislation as the original ban expired in 2004. “I think that is a phony piece of legislation and I do not believe it will pass for this reason: it’s all built on lies,” LaPierre said today. In today’s interview, LaPierre pointed out that the Columbine High School shooting occurred after the assault weapons ban passed… He also did not discuss the fact that there was an armed guard on duty at the school when Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 people there before killing themselves.

Read the Rest @ NRA Chief LaPierre: ‘Call Me Crazy’ – Yahoo! News.

That final bold line is further proof of the misinformation campaign that the news media is pushing. I was watching the Meet the Press interview this article claims to cover, and the head of the NRA, LaPierre did in fact discuss this. Not only does this article leave that out, it actually goes on to say he never mentioned it at all.

How Our Tax System Works… Using Beer

I found this on a website and decided to pass it along, one of the best explanations of how the tax system works in the US…

Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day; ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. He said, “Since you are all such good customers, I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.”

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men — the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his “fair share”? They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay!

News Media Spinning “Fiscal Cliff” Story with it’s Biased Reporting

WASHINGTON — Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said Thursday there isn’t much point in raising tax rates on the wealthy, because they also have the money to hire people who will help them get out of paying taxes. (Huffington Post, misinterpreting what Rubio states below, this final line should say “paying the higher tax rates”, not simply “paying taxes”. There are plenty of legal ways to reduce your tax liability at that level, gifting it away for example, or less aggressive investing…)

“The billionaires and millionaires that are going to be impacted by higher rates, they can afford to hire the best lawyers, lobbyists and accountants in America to figure out how not to pay those higher rates,” Rubio told National Journal’s Major Garrett at The Atlantic Washington Ideas Forum. “The people that are going to get stuck by that bill are the small businesses, the partnerships, the S corporations, that cannot hire the lawyers to get them out of it.”

…Rubio said he doesn’t have a “religious, spiritual objection,” to tax increases, but that he still opposes them for economic reasons. He said the president’s proposal would raise only $80 billion per year in new revenue, 7.7 percent of the national deficit — not enough to make a significant dent in the debt, he argued.

“The question becomes what problem are you solving and are you willing — are you prepared — to wipe out some small businesses in exchange for seven and a half percent of deficit reduction potentially?” he said. “I think that’s a bad trade off.”

Mainstream News Media Continues to Control “Fiscal Cliff” Narrative and Americans

Just gotta love how the “unbiased” Associated Press completely leaves out the fact that even if the Republicans agreed to support this Plan B, raising taxes on incomes higher than $1 million, the White House stated the President would veto it. Why compromise on your morals if you already know ahead of time, the White House is unwilling to bargain? Find a way to pin all blame on the GOP and none on a President’s failure to lead the nation effectively, has that officially become the responsibility of the mainstream news media? The media forgets that President Clinton, whom they praise, knew how to do his job by working WITH the opposition to get spending down and tax revenues up, an equation this President can’t seem to grasp.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans seem shocked by their party’s meltdown on the so-called fiscal cliff. They shouldn’t be. The uncompromising conservatives who blocked Speaker John Boehner’s tax bill were merely sticking to policies that Boehner and nearly all other GOP leaders have pushed, without reservation, for years: It’s always wrong to raise tax rates on anyone, no matter how rich. The nation’s big deficit is entirely “a spending problem, not a revenue problem.” And in any deficit-reduction plan, spending cuts must overwhelm new revenues, by 10-to-1 if not more.

To be surprised by Boehner’s failure is to assume one of two things. Either House conservatives didn’t really believe their party’s bedrock principles; or they would compromise after seeing President Barack Obama win re-election on a deficit-reduction plan that called for higher taxes on the wealthy. Neither was true. And now the Republican Party is reeling from unbending fealty to its core principles.

Read the Rest @ Analysis: GOP policies led to fiscal cliff blowup

Is there any mention of the fact that President Obama already mentioned the necessary revenues needed could be acquired without tax increases just about a year ago, but today, that is impossible? Of course not, because it’s only the Republicans clinging to their ideals according to the news media…
